Funny fainting stories from my life:When I was a deacon (either 12 or 13), my family lived in Provo, Utah for a year while my dad was teaching at BYU on sabbatical from the University of Houston. During the summer, a sickness like the flu went through our family. My sister Kelly and I walked down to the church one Sunday by ourselves since the rest of the family was home sick, and we had recently recovered. It was fast Sunday so we were fasting and the church was more packed with people than usual. Unfortunately, the air conditioner was broken in the church so it was pretty hot. I was helping pass the sacrament and I was in the first row of deacons close to the sacrament table. Because there was so many people, we ran out of sacrament cups and so the priests had to prepare additional trays with more water so that everyone would receive the sacrament. So the deacons had to stand reverently in front of the sacramenttable in the hot chapel and wait while the priests went to find and fill more sacrament cups. Well, the heat, and the fasting, and my weakness from being sick days before was not a good combination for a deacon with locked knees trying to be reverent. I passed out, still holding a tray in my hand. I fell directly backward past the second row of deacons and hit my head on the pews behind us. I came to a little while later and awoke to see a circle of light peeking through all the heads of the deacons leaning over me in a circle. One of the members of the stake presidency was at the sacrament meeting, so he came down to assist. I think he and my young men’s president lifted me up and carried me directly down the center aisle of the chapel. I was so embarrassed that I fainted passing the sacrament that I justclosed my eyes and pretended I was still unconscious. They laid me on the couch in the foyer to watch me for a while to make sure I was alright and then one of the men drove me home.
My physiology must be conducive to fainting because I fainted again while I was attending BYU (I don’t remember what year I was). I was studying in theHarold B. Lee Library one day. They had stacks of books that were for sale that were going out of circulation, and I’m always a sucker for a good deal. I was a Zoology major and had taken and TAed physiology and had consideredapplying for medical school one day. I saw a paramedic manual on the shelf and picked it up and started looking at it. It had some pretty graphic photos of accident-induced injuries (I won’t describe further for the sakes of everyone’s stomachs). I could only take so much and so closed the manual and put it back on the shelf. I went downstairs to continue studying but went into the bathroom first. As I was standing at the urinal, I passed out and fell backwards. Another person in the bathroom saw me fall and hit my head on the floor and apparently have a mini-seizure. I woke up again to a ring of heads around me, this time they were paramedics! The guy in the bathroomcalled 911 and so I got a nice little expensive ride to the hospital in an ambulance (the only time I’ve been in an ambulance thankfully) even thoughsomeone could have easily driven me to the hospital. They put me on a heart monitor since my heart was a little out of whack, but I was fine over time.
I think this experience confirmed that medical school may not be for me- I don’t have the constitution for it!
I am happy to report that I witnessed all four of my children being born and I never fainted.I have learned that when I start to feel like I am going to pass out, to bend my knees and get my head down fast.I still have troubles when Taralie walks in the room though…….
Taralie
My given name is just Taralie Bishop. I don't have a middle name and always figured it was because a three syllable first name is enough of a mouthful, but I have 6 sisters and only one of us has a middle name and her first name happens to be three syllables. When we've questioned my parents about that they just kind of said they didn't feel it was necessary. I have never met another person that spells their name the same as mine yet. Most people have trouble spelling it when they hear it or trouble saying it when they see it written. But when I tell them my older sister is named Natalie the spelling and pronunciation all makes sense.
I was born in Las Vegas, Nevada, while my father was stationed there serving in the Air Force. My amazing mom had 3 of us girls in 3 years while my dad was overseas much of the time. I don't remember any of that time while my dad was serving in the military, only once he returned home and continued his schooling at Utah State University. We lived in Logan for about 3 years and that's where I have my first memories. I went to kindergarten when I was still 4 and remember walking to school with just my sister and neighbor kids and it was more than just across the street - it was a good distance. That must've been when I was 5 or 6, but that was still really young and would never happen in today's society. I remember we lived in an apartment complex with lots of friends to play with at any given time.
We moved to Longmont, Colorado, when I was six because my dad got a position as an engineer for IBM. He was recruited by Iomega after six years, which landed us in Ogden, Utah, where I spent the rest of my youth and where my parents still reside.
I absolutely loved growing up with 6 sisters! It had to have been so extremely stressful on my mother going through teenage girls emotions 7 times over, but she somehow survived and we have all remained extremely close and are my best friends. There was certainly a lot of singing and dancing to fake microphones, playing house, library and school, high-pitched screeching and cat fights, clothes and more clothes, and way too many hair supplies for sharing one bathroom! The first thing everyone says when they hear there were 7 girls and no boys is "Oh, your poor dad!". Yes, my dad has had to watch more than his fair share of music recitals and listen to more emotional vomit than most, but he did just fine. He was blessed with a very even temper and I think that served him well in our household. My childhood was not lavish but we were very blessed and I have nothing but the best of memories and will always be so grateful for my parents for teaching us the gospel, being such consistent examples of living it and their trust in us to choose for ourselves.
Carson, 18
My
full name is Carson Michael Smith. Carson was chosen as my first name
from a list of possibilities once my relatives saw me after I was born
and said I looked like a Carson. I quite like my name. Actually, I love
my name. As I was growing up I never really thought about it; it was
just my name. But as I thought about it more, it's a pretty unique name.
It's not super rare, but it's not super common either. And whenever
I've found a fellow Earth-dweller that shares my name, whether it be boy
or girl, I've been able to share a bit of a special moment with them;
because we're awesome. Now, my middle name obviously came from my
father, Michael Edward Smith. And I think we all know how I got my
surname. A nickname I was given when I was a baby was 'Chubba'. I was
the most adorable little child with the most adorable little cheeks.
Actually, they were big. They were huge. It's what the ladies liked back
in the 90's. My
brother, Jonah, also gave me the nickname, ‘Dipdume'; which I have no
idea what that was about. That doof just couldn't say ‘Carson'.

I've always loved playing games with my family, both board and card games and outdoor activities. When Carson and I were younger we used to play catch with a basketball or a bowling ball. Just kidding, we used a baseball or football and my dad often played with us also. We also like to play tag and jump on the trampoline, although I haven't for a long time. Just about all sports are extremely fun to me and my favorite one is basketball. Some of our favorite board and card games are Hands Down, Phase 10, Rook, Sword and Skull, Ticket to Ride, Zarahemla (Settlers of Catan), and Telestrations. Gulp was another game that Carson and I used to play all the time. It's a card game similar to War but using marine animals. Some big group games we love to play include the Sign Game, the Name Game (Couch Game), and I always loved Red Rover but we never seemed to have a large enough group to play (or a large enough group of people willing to play). All these games are really special to me because they created fun family memories.

Sabey (10)
Hi! :) My name is Sabey Ann Smith. I got my first name from my Great Grandma and Grandpa Sabey, and my middle name from my great grandma on my grandpa's side, Natalie Ann Smith. My dad likes to call me nicknames like Sabatha and Sabrina. It's starting to get on my nerves though. I was born in Laurel, Maryland. But we moved to Kentucky when I was only 1 year old.
My talent is music. I play the piano and violin. I also love to sing and dance. I take Dance classes. This year I'm taking tap, jazz, and ballet. I'm super excited.
I love to sing, but sometimes it's really hard for me to sing in front of people. But I'm getting better at it. When I was little I liked to sing nursery rhymes. Now I like to sing a lot of songs, like primary songs, songs on the radio, and I also like listening to my Ipod in my room.
I also love playing with my friends. My best friend's name is Meghan. I've known her since we moved to Kentucky and we've always been best friends. We say things at the same time a lot. It's kind of funny! We're always together and we always like to be silly and goofy. I still remember things we did together when we were 3 and 4 years old. Meghan is an awesome friend.
I don't really do any sports ( besides dance, which I'm not sure counts), but I still love to play volleyball! I might not be the best at it, but I still really enjoy playing it.
I'm also really good at drawing and art. It's one of my favorite things to do in my free time. I've recently learned how to draw a really pretty tree and I've been drawing it everywhere. I'm proud of myself after working hard on a new drawing.
Another interesting thing about me is that I'm really good at spelling. Last year, I won my classroom spelling bee at school, so I continued to the school spelling bee. I won that as well. I was really proud of myself then. Because I won my school spelling bee, I got to move on to the district spelling bee! I was really nervous because I was going against 26 other students that were 4th graders up to 8th graders, and you won't believe it . . . I got 6th place!!!! I was so happy! It was an awesome experience for me.
And that's all about me! :)
